Sustainability is really important to us here at Ginkgo Events and we have been really encouraged by the fact that many of our recent clients have shared that sustainability is an important factor when planning their event. But what can we do as event organisers?

TRANSPORT

Think carefully about how delegates get to your event and find the most sustainable but practical option. You could request that they use public transport, you could provide a coach or even arrange a carpool. We've even been involved in an event that has had a carpool karaoke as an icebreaker before the event even started!

PRINTING AND MERCH

Consider what printing is really required for your event and print anything essential on recycled paper. Also carefully consider if you really need the usual goodie bags full of plastic branded items. There are some fab branded items made from sustainable materials. Perhaps an unbranded but unique ethical gift would actually have more of an impact on delegates. We offer some sustainable gifts so give us a shout if you would like to find out more

HYBRID

Consider running a hybrid event so those delegates from further afield don't need to travel. Many venues are really well set up for virtual delegates now. We've seen an increase in virtual speakers/presenters recently too - it's a much more sustainable (and cheaper) option than bringing a speaker a long distance for a short presentation. You could also consider a number of smaller local events rather than one large event that all the delegates have to travel to.

CATERING

You can ask the venue not to use single use plastics for your event - even if they usually would. You can also ask for more details about the origins of the food. If you are not satisfied, you can always ask for changes or choose a different venue.

CHOOSE YOUR VENUE WISELY

Some venues are greener than others and all should be able to provide details of what they are doing towards sustainability. We would be delighted to ask for sustainability credentials from venues when requesting an initial quote. Or for some advice about particularly sustainable venues - just ask - we are becoming experts on this!
